Established in 1902, in Springfield, MA, the
Tuesday Morning Music Club has kept alive a long tradition of interaction
between the professional instrumental and vocal musicians of the
Pioneer Valley and the many music lovers of the region. Many of our
performers teach, perform in this country, and abroad but still
continue to appear at our venue.
The Tuesday Morning Music Club also
supports the Junior Extension which was established to encourage
young talented and gifted students to perform monthly at public
recitals.
Our Board of Directors, who are professionals in other
fields, devote many hours of volunteer time to keep chamber music
alive.
We are a club of about 275 members who meet on the
first and third Tuesday of the month from October through May.
Our objective is to stimulate the musical interests of our members,
and to offer rich musical experience to the community as well.
The TMMC is unique in that it showcases exceptional local talent and
provides a number of free concerts each year to which the community is
invited to attend.
We regularly designate particular concerts as Special Event Days. We
have an annual Junior Extension Day when we showcase our young
members to the Tuesday Morning Music Club Junior Extension. Other,
less regular, events include Recognition Day when local members of
the club are recognized for their contributions, Springfield
Symphony Orchestra Day when we feature guests connected with the
Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Membership Day, and President's Day.
In addition, two of our twelve year programs--our Artist
Programs--feature top name classical musicians from outside our
area. A reception follows most of the programs where the audience
can meet and greet the artists and where friendships flourish
between music lovers. At the close of our season, a luncheon follows
the annual meeting. Some of our local members have set up funds to
be used for scholarships for our young people in the Junior
Extension. Each year a Scholarship Concert is held and awards are
given out to some of the deserving youngsters in the Junior
Extension.
Each year we have a varied group of concerts determined by the
Program Committee. Most of our Active Performing Members of
the Club are professional musicians. Throughout the year they
provide outstanding musical performances including solo and ensemble
instrumental and vocal programs. In order to feature our organists,
we hold some concerts at area churches and other venues where these
magnificent instruments are installed.
In the past we have had several two-piano concerts featuring artists
such as award-winning Yamaha Artists and sisters Christina and
Beatrice Long, and the brilliant Russian pianists Leo Makarov and
Galina Gertsenzon. We also present lighter show music where we have
featured double pianos with Charles Page and Tom Slowick. We
co-sponsor programs with other musical groups in the community and
have featured concerto winners of the Springfield Symphony Youth
Orchestra Competition, a variety of SSO musicians, and Maestro Kevin
Rhodes himself. Our Guest Artists have included the Epic Brass
Quintet and the fabulous pianist and composer Joel Martin of
Jazzical fame. TMMC has hosted hundreds of extraordinary musical
programs over the years that have delighted our audiences.
